The Programme:
BBC Media Action is producing an exciting radio programme – Niambie – that provides a platform for young Tanzanians to examine the burning questions and challenges facing the youth today. Through a creative, energetic, youth-led radio programme, with the support of dedicated web- and social-media platforms, Niambie actively engages young Tanzanians in conversation, encouraging them to participate in shaping the content and direction of the programme.
The Niambie programme inspires and promotes active citizenship amongst young Tanzanians. With an over-arching focus on encouraging young people to question their role in civic affairs and the wider national agenda, Niambie enhances dialogue between the youth and leaders whilst examining the opportunities for young Tanzanians to engage in community life and influence change in wider society.
Overall Purpose of Job
The main task of the intern will be to learn about how production happens by joining in with the design, recording and editing of the radio show and social media context.
The intern role will be to:
Be a voice on Niambie and help create a tone and style of the radio output establishing a relationship with listeners
Plan, rehearse shows where need be and memorize scripts
Support the presenters and producers to introduce, host and edit programmes
Gather and verify information for topics through interviews, observation, and research (depending on the format).
Organize material, determine angle or emphasis according to the prescribed editorial style and format standards.
Work cooperatively with the production team on assigned stories/topics.
Assist the Content Producer in preparing the weekly/monthly topics of the programme
Assist production staff in preparing content for the show’s multimedia platforms.
Carry out a range of other production tasks, as well as deliver content for related websites or other media platforms
Required knowledge, skills, and experience.
Applicant should be aged 18-20 only.

Overall Purpose of Job
The purpose of the Senior Mentor/Trainer (Media Management & Marketing) role is to increase the sustainability and financial independence of Media Action’s Tanzania-wide network of broadcast partners. It is envisaged that greater sustainability and financial independence will be achieved through the strengthening of partners’ business management skills and systems, and the development and implementation of robust profit-generating advertising, marketing and sales strategies. The Senior Mentor/Trainer (Media Management & Marketing) will be primarily field-based (approximately 75%), rotating between the broadcast partners across Tanzania, with the remaining time (approximately 25%) based at BBC Media Action’s office in Dar es Salaam.
Person Specification - Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Required:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Management or a closely-related field.
At least 5 years’ experience in marketing and/or advertising in Tanzania including personally developing and implementing broadcast advertising and/or marketing and/or sales campaigns.
At least 3 years’ experience in a management role in a marketing or advertising environment.
Proven experience of planning and delivering training in marketing and/or advertising and/or business management and interest in developing further skills in this area.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
Fluent in written and spoken Kiswahili and English and experienced in preparing detailed reports in Kiswahili and English.
Good working knowledge of the MS Office suite.
Desirable:
Experience of working in the media sector in Tanzania, particularly local radio, would be strongly desirable.
Experience of working with an NGO (or as part of a donor-funded activity).
Knowledge and understanding of key development issues in Tanzania, particularly governance issues.
Experience of working remotely.
Main Duties
Working closely with the Partnerships Development Manager and the other members of the mentoring team:
Develop a Media Management & Marketing training and mentoring strategy for BBC Media Action in Tanzania;
Undertake marketing, advertising and management skills capacity and needs-assessments at broadcast partners;
Develop training tools and materials covering (but not limited to) advertising, marketing, media planning and sales, local private sector mapping, business planning and strategy, and media-house management;
Deliver training and provide advice to broadcast partners in how to realize long-term increases in revenue and profitability;
Deliver training and provide support to broadcast partners to build management capacity and develop stronger internal systems;
Deliver media-house management and marketing training to the wider BBC Media Action projects’ and capacity-building teams;
Submit training reports, workplans and budgets to the Partnerships Development Manager as agreed in advance;
Contribute to donor narrative and financial reports, including drafting media management and marketing sections in English and Kiswahili;
Deliver any other tasks related to this role as required by the line manager.

Overall Purpose of Job
Reporting to the Country Director, the Finance Manager will be the focal point for accounting processes, financial controls, and donor and tax compliance for BBC Media Action's work in Tanzania. The Finance Manager will ensure that all BBC Media Action financial transactions are compliant with the principle of value for money and will develop and deliver training to staff and partners on financial management. S/he will manage the Finance team and be a member of the Senior Management Team.
Person Specification - required knowledge, skills and experience
Fully Qualified Accountant – ACCA, CIMA, or local qualification – with original copies of qualification documents.
At least seven years of professional working experience of which at least three have been spent working at a senior management level within a recognised NGO or INGO.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time, including experience of managing multiple budgets at the same time.
Experience of working with, and reporting to, international donors and a working knowledge of donor compliance rules and regulations for the major donors in Tanzania (including DFID, USAID and EU).
Existing, or proven ability to quickly develop, strong knowledge of the BBC’s financial management guidelines and systems and proven ability to apply such guidelines consistently.
Strong IT skills, with proven experience of the advanced operation of financial management software. Advanced professional level in Microsoft Excel.

Main Duties
Financial Control
Maintaining the financial integrity of BBC Media Action’s operations in Tanzania, and ensuring full compliance with policies & procedures, particularly around cash, advances and banking.
Being the primary source of expertise for BBC Media Action staff in Tanzania on financial best-practice, and control and compliance issues.
Managing BBC Media Action’s bank accounts in Tanzania and liaising with our bankers as appropriate.
Co-custodian with the Country Director of the safe and its contents.
Keeping up-to-date the financial risk assessments of all projects in Tanzania, ensuring that key financial risks are identified, clear recommendations on how to deal with areas of weaknesses are discussed with the Country Director / SMT, and helping to ensure that the recommendations are implemented.
Undertaking spot checks as appropriate, and ensuring the timely implementation of, and being the primary contact person for, external and internal audits.
Financial & Management Accounting
Responsible for maintaining the in-country financial systems including Dimensions. Using those systems, responsible for the accurate recording of all income and expenditure and monthly reporting to London Project Accountant providing fully reconciled reports detailing income, expenditure and cash and bank reconciliations.
Overseeing the management of all BBC Media Action cash accounts, ensuring that reconciliations are carried out month, that all necessary financial controls are in place, and that cash-flow is appropriately managed;
Communicating the financial status of projects to relevant staff in country using financial reports and providing monthly actual-vs-budget analysis and other management information that may be required from time to time, to the Country Director.
Budgeting of BBC Media Action’s projects in Tanzania, with such forecasting and budget revisions as required by the Country Director Tanzania, or the London finance team, or donors and potential donors.
Working closely with budget holders, ensure that regular forecasting activities and reconciliation reviews for all project budgets are properly conducted, ensuring that forecasts and budgets are timely and accurate and as accurate as possible.
Preparation of the finance section of the monthly Country Director’s report.
Donor Compliance
Ensuring compliance with all financial reporting and forecasting requirements of donors and others, and ensuring the smooth flow of funds from donors.
Being the main point of contact on financial matters with in-country donor organisations, and building good working relationships with donor finance officers.
Ensuring that expenditure is incurred and reported in line with donor agreements.
Providing financial guidance to senior management and all project staff.
Ensuring all project audits occur in a timely manner, and are successfully concluded.
Management, Training & Capacity Building
Supervising and providing line and team management for other finance staff employed by BBC Media Action in Tanzania.
Training and developing other finance and project staff in policies, procedures and other finance issues as appropriate.
Legal and Statutory Compliance
Ensuring full compliance with Tanzanian laws and regulations related to any element of finance such as Tanzania tax legislation and advising the Country Director and others as appropriate on financial and finance-related legislative changes that may affect BBC Media Action's operations.
Operation of payroll for all staff in Tanzania.
Undertaking other duties that the Country Director or the London finance team might request.
